Perfect Magnet Chess Set!Dec 01, 2008 We take this little chess board with us everywhere! It's perfectly designed for the traveler and those who want to take chess on the go. The pieces stay PUT! Slap on the lid, tuck it in your backpack and your ready to go. This is far superior to other magnetic chess games.
The game pieces are nice quality and the game itself is well made. We are very pleased with this purchase & it gets a lot of use.
Highly recommend. It will not disappoint!
PERFECT TRAVEL SETNov 26, 2008 Perfect size (not too small and not too big).
Plastic cover is stronger than I expected.
Board is very nice (black and gold metal).
Pieces have large base and magnet which keeps them firmly in place.
Magnet is donut shaped with plastic from piece extending though the middle of the magnet. This allows for a tight and strong "grip" of the magnet to the piece.
I noticed that on some of my pieces, the plastic protruded too far through the hole in the magnet, which made piece "wobble" on board. It took about two minutes to file all pieces so protruding plastic was flush with the magnet on the bottom and the pieces all "sat" perfectly on the board.
Another great feature is that the magnets are powerful enough that you can leave a game or study session in progress and simply place the cover back on "box" and pieces don't move. When you want to use again, all the pieces are right where you left them. I really works quite well.
I highly recommend this set to anyone looking for a convenient magnetic set for study or travel. It is very well designed and made. I was quite impressed and pleasantly surprised.
GREAT PORTABLE CHESS SETNov 23, 2008 Excellent sized and constructed chess set. It is a great chess set for travel or for regular use. The bishops look like pawns and can be capped with colored tape or paint to make them stand out.
What other reviers left outNov 19, 2008 This is a nice chess set for traveling, as you probably already read it has a cover and strong magnets but what i realized a couple hours after placing all the pieces was that when i removed them (the pieces) it left a mark that i think maybe comes from the adhesive of the magnets (makes the board look dirty), in the end i don't really mind since it i just my traveling set, but i would have loved to be warned . If you do happen to get this board i advise you to wipe the bottom of your pieces other wise every time you do get adhesive on your board and you wipe it off you risk bringing the chess board paint along with it (my board has some spots caused when i removed the adhesive, the black paint came with it. now you can see gold spots.). Either way this is a nice set, you can play and study on the go, just remember wipe the bottom of your new pieces if you get this!
Great little travel chess setNov 10, 2008 Nice (very) little magnetic chess set. The pieces stay put. You can even box up the set midgame, stow it away and continue later.
Cons:
It may be a bit TOO small. The pieces tend to all look the same when they're this tiny. The magnets don't always stay on the pieces too well.
