5Like a New Bed...Nov 27, 2008
This is, by far, the nicest mattress pad I have ever owned. I never realized how a well-made mattress pad can change the enitre feel of a bed. This mattress pad is similar to a pillow-top mattress; It has a very nice padded top that is so soft and comfortable for sleeping. It has improved my sleeping tremendously.

My husband and I are tall and have an extra-long mattress and this pad fits it, despite the extra length. It fits snugly and stays in place, unlike some mattress pads in the company of active sleepers. If there is any complaint, it might be that the bulkly nature of the pad does not make for as clean of a look on a made bed. The pad is not so bulky that the bed looks messy (by any means) but since it is not flat, it does take a little more effort to get that clean look for your made-up bed.

Overall, I love this mattress pad. I have already ordered another for my daughter's bed and would recommend to anyone looking for a new mattress pad. It is worth the expense.

5Well worth the moneyNov 20, 2008
I really like this mattress pad cover. It is thick and comfortable. It easily fits on a deep mattress. I like soft beds and this gives your bed that 5-star hotel feel. Highly recommended.

3Too Large for In-Home LaunderingNov 08, 2008
The mattress pad itself is nicely constructed, if a bit different than those I've had in the past. The cotton was soft and even lustrous, giving it a nice appearance. They do not exaggerate when they say it's overfilled, as the mattress pad is more of the size of a comforter.

The difference in construction is twofold. First, the sides of the mattress pad are made of a stretchy nylon material. This seemed a little strange and I was sure it wouldn't keep the mattress pad in place and that the overfilled top would shift, but I was wrong. Secondly, the top was quilted in large squares and because of the overfilling, the some of the corners where the squares met felt like little knots or bumps in the mattress pad. That said, I really only noticed this with my hands when making the bed or when getting into the bed and it was not uncomfortable or even noticeable when laying in the bed. The mattress pad did give a nice cushiony feeling to the mattress.

The final test was how it laundered and that's where it presented a problem. Despite having both an extra capacity washer (old agitator style) and dryer, this mattress pad was too large for them to handle. My washer eventually shut down and leaked water underneath (fortunately, it's in a tray), but one of the quilted squares had ripped open and stuffing is coming out. I'm not going to take this mattress pad to a commercial laundry or laudromat, so I was going to throw it away, but didn't want a soggy, smelly mess in the garage since trash doesn't get picked up for a few days, so I put it in the dryer. Another mistake. After a few minutes, I noticed a faint chemical smell and decided to remove it from the dryer. I don't know if the size was pushing it up against the drum of the dryer or against a hot spot/heating element, or if the pad itself being new may have been responsible (it wasn't a BAD smell, but one that worried me for the dryer). At this point, not sure if the mattress pad may have killed the washer, I wasn't willing to risk a second appliance - and it may have been just fine. Note that my washer is up in years, but I've been reluctant to put down a washer that's been faithful. I have since done another load of wash and no more water came out from the bottom, it finished the entire cycle and I'm hopeful the mattress pad didn't kill it. But that said, I've put the mattress pad out to trash since it's ripped (maybe it would be more accurate to say the washing machine killed the mattress pad) and too big for my extra capacity appliances, making it of little use to me.

Bottom line, this mattress pad is more the size of a comforter and if you have a King sized bed, it may require being taken to the laundromat to launder.

5Heaven!Nov 05, 2008
We've been sleeping on the Pike Street Mattress Pad for about 3 weeks now and couldn't be happier with it. We have an extra deep mattress, and the pad fits it perfectly. Our mattress also has a built in memory foam layer, so now things are extra plush and luxe.
It is so fluffy and comfortable, adding a good 2" softness. The quilted top just adds to that.
I was worried about it being hot, but it actually helps keep the bed cool and seems to let more air circulate between me and the mattress.
I would only recommend air drying because of the backing material of the pad.
This is a great upgrade to your king mattress and for $53 you can't really beat the price. Most plain king matress pads cost at least this much. You need to keep a pad on the ma tress anyway, so might as well get one with these extra features to give you an even better night's sleep.

3Decent Mattress Pad For The MoneyOct 30, 2008
This is a decent mattress pad, it is well made, fit nicely, but for me it was just ok. It does add some softness and it seems to store/reflect body heat a bit, but my mattress is new and this added just a minimum of softness to what I had.

I think that if my mattress were old or hard, this might have impressed me more, but it isn't and it didn't. If the day comes and I need a mattress pad for my aging bed, I'd probably buy a memory foam or eggshell if not a new mattress.
