The chairs are made of kapur wood, a dense and highly durable hardwood from Southeast Asia (primarily Indonesia and Malaysia). The kapur has a fine-sanded, oil-stained finish in a warm, mahogany brown tone. Rivaling teak for strength and resistance to weather and insects, kapur is ideal for outdoor use. The chair's seat and back are constructed of wide slats, and it features flattened arms and a gently curved, concave back for added comfort. It can recline to five positions by pulling up the ratcheted arms. The scissor legs fold together, and the back comes inward toward the seat for storage. The seat is approximately 17-1/2 inches off the ground, and the chair measures 42-1/2 inches tall. No assembly is required. Before shipment, your new furniture will receive a generous application of teak oil, which provides protection from ultraviolet light. Left untreated, kapur will weather to a soft, warm shade of gray similar to that of weathered teak. If you prefer to prevent this weathering process, you may apply additional coats of teak oil. How often you'll need to apply teak oil will depend on the intensity of the sun in your environment, but typically, one or two coats per year is sufficient. Teak oil can usually be found at a marine dealer or hardware store, or or through an Internet merchant. If you allow your furniture to weather, you may later decide that you want to restore it to its original condition. This is possible using teak-cleaner products, also available at most marine dealers or through Internet merchants. After following the instructions for cleaning, you will want to apply a coat of teak oil to prevent the weathering process. What's in the Box

What can I say? I own a whole set of Strathwood. These chairs are a deal. You just have to slather some teak oil on them every so often, and they look just like an expensive teak set. I take them in in the winter though and keep them out of the rain if possible. I have the coffee table in my living room, not outside and it's beautiful. Yes they are made in Vietnam, but that war is over.

Great chairs. They were shipped with great care and all arrived without any damage. My only "knock" on them is that they almost appear to be stained and sealed rather than oiled. Time will tell to see how they weather, but other than that, they are beautiful.

These are great chairs -- perfect for lounging outdoors in windy Colorado. The wood is lush and quite dense. The hardware is sturdy and very functional. Be advised that the chairs are a bit heavy as a result and can be a little awkward to move around when folded.
